The heightened visual imagery of the Philip Glass piece (below) comes from the work of one of Mr. Glass’ best known collaborators, Robert Wilson. Trotsky’s concluding act of acceptance – and the evening’s final moment (heading off to the garden to, essentially, smell the roses) - was accompanied by an unraveling of the seemingly unit set and swathing of the stage and audience in colorful ribbons to the strains of Louis Armstrong singing What a Wonderful World (left).
It was a sharp and good-looking production; I wish I had better photos. |
